July 2, 2026 — Haibei's In Passing, scored for string quartet and vibraphone, had its first performance at the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program in Putney, VT. Alison Chung, Norah Mix, Neena Agrawal, Yikai Guo, and Candy Guoer Pang played it in the Big Barn, coached by Raman Ramakrishnan.
HOCKETING DEBUTS AT THE YELLOW BARN SUMMER FESTIVAL
June 21, 2026 — Hocketing, written for guitar, cello, and percussion, was first heard at the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program. Kaz Hudson (guitar), Alma Wosner (cello), and Lillian Reeves (percussion) performed it under the coaching of Jean-Michel Fonteneau.

May 16, 2026 — Haibei's Duo for violin and piano took First Prize in the 2026 Belvedere Festival Student Composition Contest.
DUO PERFORMED AT M CHAMBER, PRESENTED BY RESONANCE ACROSS CULTURES
June 6, 2026 — Haibei’s Duo for violin and piano was performed by Meihe Wang (violin) and Zhenyi Zhang (piano) on the M chamber concert, curated by Resonance Across Cultures — a cross-cultural music initiative led by executive producer Hongrun Zhu, for which Haibei serves as Founding Music Director.
SUMMER 2026 ANNOUNCEMENT!
February 2026 — This summer, Haibei will take part in two programs: the Yellow Barn Young Artists Program in Putney, VT, on an 80% scholarship, and the Collaborative Composition Initiative (CCI // St. Louis), where she is the youngest composer chosen to write for the Unheard-of//Ensemble.
At Yellow Barn, she will study with Juri Seo, Katie Balch, Lei Liang, Daniel Temkin, and Stephen Coxe, and write new chamber music for the program's musicians.
With CCI // St. Louis, she will work alongside Liliya Ugay, Chris Stark, and Adam Maness to create new pieces for the Unheard-of//Ensemble, performed at venues across the city.
SINGS WITH THE JUILLIARD COMMUNITY CHOIR AND WEILL CORNELL CHORUS
2025–2026 — Haibei sang as an alto in the Juilliard Community Choir (director Adrian O. Rodriguez) across the year, from an outdoor set in the plaza on September 20, 2025 and a Christmas in Leipzig program at Corpus Christi Church, to concerts in Peter Jay Sharp Theater (December 2025), the Juilliard celebration on February 4, 2026, and the school's open house on May 6, 2026. She also served as Alto Section Leader of the Weill Cornell Music and Medicine Initiative Chorus, whose season finale was performed on May 2, 2026.

April 23, 2026 — Lines from The Vegetarian, for viola and piano, was programmed again at the Juilliard Composers' Concert in Paul Hall, The Juilliard School.

April 3, 2026 — Haibei was selected for a small-group composition session with Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy-winning composer Kevin Puts during his spring visit to The Juilliard School.
流苏谣 (LIUSU BALLAD) SELECTED FOR THE “LIUSU” MUSIC FESTIVAL
April 3, 2026 — Haibei’s 流苏谣 (Liusu Ballad) for SA choir was chosen as a public-welfare work for the “Liusu” Music Festival, part of a fringe-flower–themed original-music competition presented by the Fuzhou Municipal Education Bureau, the Fujian Provincial Art Museum, and the Fujian Provincial Musicians Association. The piece was performed by the choir of Fuzhou No. 16 Middle School (福州第十六中学) in Fuzhou, China.
PASSACALLIOPE PERFORMED IN A JUILLIARD PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
December 17, 2025 — Haibei’s Passacalliope, for flute and percussion, was performed at the Juilliard station as part of Performance Workshop: 20th & 21st Century Music, a graduate-level course — one of the few works by an undergraduate selected for the program.
ESSAY CHOSEN FOR THE WOLF INTERVAL (VOL. 15)
November 27, 2025 — Haibei's essay "Seeing Himmler Beyond the Monster" was accepted for The Wolf Interval, Juilliard's peer-reviewed journal of student scholarship.
12:55 AM PREMIERES AT THE JUILLIARD COMPOSERS' CONCERT
November 3, 2025 — Soprano Madison Z. Varriale, double bassist Moa Glimberg, and pianist Haoran Cui gave the first performance of 12:55 AM at the Juilliard Composers' Concert in Paul Hall. The work sets a text by poet Vanessa Y. Niu.
SELECTED FOR THE RODLAND VIOLA STUDIO COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
October 9, 2025 — Haibei was selected for the annual collaborative project between the Carol Rodland Viola Studio and the Juilliard Composition Department, now in its sixth year. Over the fall and winter, each composer is paired with a violist to build a new work for solo viola, or viola and one partner, in close collaboration. Haibei’s resulting piece, Lines from The Vegetarian, was premiered at the project’s recital in Paul Hall on April 8, 2026.
BEGINS WORKING ON CAMPUS AT THE JUILLIARD SCHOOL
2025 — Alongside her studies, Haibei began working on campus at The Juilliard School, taking on roles as a Liberal Arts Office assistant, a Writing Center tutor supporting students with academic writing across disciplines, and an audition monitor during audition season.
BEGINS COMPOSITION STUDIES AT THE JUILLIARD SCHOOL
September 2025 — Haibei entered The Juilliard School in New York City to start her Bachelor of Music in Composition, working with Dr. Amy Beth Kirsten and holding The Juilliard Scholarship.

REFLECTIONS OF A DREAM AT TANGLEWOOD ON PARADE
August 6, 2024 — Haibei's work for clarinet and string quartet, Reflections of a Dream, was performed on the main grounds of the Tanglewood Music Center (Chamber Music Hall) during Tanglewood on Parade, presented by the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (Martin Amlin, conductor).

Summer 2024 — The Young Artists Orchestra read and recorded Haibei's orchestral work Symphonic Movement at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

Spring 2024 — This summer, Haibei will attend the Boston University Tanglewood Institute's Young Artists Composition Program in Lenox, MA on a Full Scholarship. During the program she will study with Martin Amlin, Justin Casinghino, and Nico Muhly, and write new work for the institute's young musicians.

Summer 2023 — Picked as one of two composers for a full orchestral reading, Haibei heard her orchestral work Homecoming played by the World Youth Symphony Orchestra under conductor Jung-Ho Pak at Interlochen Arts Camp.

WOODWIND QUINTET PERFORMED AT TIANJIN JUILLIARD
May 20, 2023 — Haibei's Woodwind Quintet (2022) was performed on Tianjin Juilliard's Pre-College Student Artist Series Concert by Wanruo Zhang (flute), Yu Xia (oboe), Patrick Yulin Liu (clarinet), Guanlin Lau (bassoon), and Zun Wang (horn). The quintet was also played at Interlochen Arts Camp that summer.

June 13, 2020 — During the pandemic, Haibei's Tango for violin, flute, and piano was introduced on Tianjin Juilliard's online Pre-College Evening Concert, with Haibei at the piano alongside flutist Lihao Yang.
BEGINS FORMAL COMPOSITION STUDIES
2019 — Haibei started her composition training in China, enrolling at both the China Conservatory Middle School in Beijing and Tianjin Juilliard Pre-College in Tianjin. She soon concentrated on Tianjin Juilliard, studying composition with Niccolò Athens and viola with Ao Peng through 2025.
